Topics \ Area of the SIG

The following topics are intended to play an important role in the field of SIG s activity:

- dynamical x-ray diffraction, diffractometry and topography
- multibeam x-ray diffraction
- surface sensitive diffraction and scattering
- x-ray diffraction in vibrating crystals
- phase problem in x-ray scattering;
- x-ray phase-contrast imaging; x-ray holography
- x-ray wave fields at x-ray scattering and diffraction; X-ray standing wave phenomena
- secondary radiation yields under x-ray interaction with matter
- x-ray scattering in layered systems; x-ray and SR waveguides
- physical principals of x-ray scattering and diffraction for x-ray and SR optical elements and schemes.

Status (Rules)

1. Title

A special Interest Group within the European Crystallographic Association (ECA) entitled X-ray diffraction physics and optics , XDPO.

2. Objectives

The principal objectives of the SIG are to support advances in x-ray diffraction physics and optics research by theoretical investigations and experimental study using various x-ray sources including SR; to bring together
scientists interested in these areas.

3. Membership

All European crystallographers interested in x-ray diffraction physics and optics are encouraged to join the XDPO SIG. Those not living or working in one of the ECA Member Countries have to register as IM's of the ECA.

4. Organization

The activities of XDPO will be organized by its Steering Committee, consisting of 10-15 members (including Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, Secretary). The election procedure for the Steering Committee and the maximum period for its membership will be established during the start-up period of XDPO, which will cover three years. During the start up period the Steering Committee will initially consist of the Promoters and a Vice-chair and Secretary who will be nominated from the Founding members.
The first meeting of the active group of founding members has been successfully held in Nancy. It was decided that the preliminary board of SIG will consist of co-chairmen:
prof. M.Kovalchuk (Russia) and prof. B.Capelle (France)
and secretary
prof. S.Zheludeva (Russia)

5. Activities

The SIG should:

- Organize microsimposia and plenary talks at ECM's;
- Organize seminars, workshops; satellite meetings of the ECM's;
- Organize regular school for young scientists involved in the problems of x-ray diffraction physics and optics ;
- Set-up of web-site with information about meetings, addresses, ets.;
- Preparation of databases and computer programs. Access to information about them are to be given via the website;
- Cooperate with the various IUCr Commissions in the organization of corresponding microsimposia at IUCr Congress;
- Promote other activities that may favor the interests and development of research in x-ray diffraction physics and optics.
